Meet Our Physiotherapists

Jane Rooney

Specialist Sports Physio (FACP) & APA Titled Musculoskeletal Physio

Jane is one of Australia's most recognised and respected knee specialists and enjoys the academic challenge of complex knee conditions. She is an expert in the treatment and management of all types of knee injuries, including knee ligament reconstructions, patellofemoral pain and instability, and screening for injury prevention and performance enhancement. Jane has also developed an evidence based clinical Return to Sport Screening Test post ACL reconstruction. 

Jane has extensive experience in the Sports Medicine field both in Europe and Australia with 26 years experience and has been a senior clinician at Prahran Sports Medicine centre for the past 16 years. Jane is an Honorary Lecturer at Melbourne University in the Undergraduate and Post graduate Physiotherapy Programs and a guest lecturer at La Trobe University Post Graduate Masters in Physiotherapy. Jane is also a regular presenter for the Australian Physiotherapy Association and is a facilitator and examiner for the Australian College of Physiotherapists.  Jane has worked with elite athletes at state, national and international levels in swimming, netball, athletics, soccer, AFL and cycling. Jane has also travelled with the Australian Fed Cup team, Tennis Australia and has provided individual physiotherapy services to internationally recognised tennis players.

Nick Meffin

APA Titled Sports Physio & APA Titled Musculoskeletal Physio

Nick combines evidence based medicine in combination with the clinical art, He has over 12 years experience in private practice working with elite, sub-elite and clients of all ages. 

He uses a hands on approach in combination with a comphensive exercise or rehabilitation based therapy.  This includes shockwave therapy, dry needling, manipulation and soft tissue mobilisation. His interests lie in knee tendon rehabilitation, knee ligament reconstructions, patellofemoral instability, dysfunction or ligament reconstruction and osteoarthritis.   

He enjoys treating people of all ages and especially the more complex cases. He is working closely with Jane Rooney to develop knee rehabilitation and training/rehab principles at our state of the art facility at Prahran Sports Medicine. Rhiarna Hill  

APA Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist

Rhiarna currently consults at Inner North Physiotherapy (Thornbury) and as the in-house physiotherapist with Mr. Nigel Hartnett (knee specialist orthopaedic surgeon). Since 2006 she has gained a wealth of experience particularly in the field of assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation of people with knee conditions, helping individuals return to full function either with conservative management alone, or following orthopaedic surgery. She values ongoing learning, and loves being able to pass this knowledge onto her patients and other healthcare practitioners.

 She has worked with many sporting teams both at a national and international level in Football (soccer), gymnastics (Commonwealth Games, World Cup), Swimming (FINA World Short Course) and Ultimate Frisbee. She currently works with Wheelchair Basketball Australia and Para-badminton Australia.

As a self confessed ‘knee nerd’ Rhiarna is very excited to be working as part of the expert knee team at the Melbourne Knee Clinic, developing evidence based injury prevention and rehabilitation programs, and return to sport criteria. She is also undertaking research into ACL rehabilitation and recovery following Total Knee Joint Replacement at Swinburne University with surgeon and physiotherapy colleagues. She has a particular interest in the individualized management of knee ligament injuries, adolescent knee conditions, patellofemoral pain, and knee osteoarthritis.
